Residence Student's Beach, Banter & BBQ 2025

Come join us for a Beach Day so you're prepared for the warmer days ahead!

Date: Wednesday, 23rd July 2025 (O'Week)

Time: 11am, followed by lunch at 1pm

Location: starting at Campus East Admin Building 211 (North Wollongong), then off for a walk to a nearby beach

After a quick workshop at Campus East, we'll head out to the beach for a 'dry sand' experience, where a team of life savers and lifeguards will show you how to recognise ocean patterns and rip currents using coloured dyes, how to read the warning signs, and how to seek help in and out of the water.

This is one of many waterside events UOW has planned for 2025, so check out https://events.uow.edu.au/BeachWalks for more chances to Beach & Banter

Check out these helpful water safety videos for now, and we hope you can join us for the next beach safety event.

Next time you are at the beach, remember to:

  • Swim between the red and yellow flags – This area is patrolled by lifeguards and is the safest place to swim.
  • Never swim alone – Always swim with a friend or in view of others.
  • Check beach signs and warnings – They tell you about dangerous currents, jellyfish, or water quality.
  • Know your limits – If you're not a confident swimmer, stay in shallow water.
  • Protect yourself from the sun – Wear sunscreen, a hat, and drink lots of water.
