At Beach, Banter & BBQ you will learn how to spot rip currents, read the ocean like a local, and discover the best ways to stay safe at the beach - all without getting wet!

What to expect:

  • Beach safety essentials: Key tips and tools for staying safe at the beach.
  • Read the ocean: Learn how to spot rip current and understand ocean conditions.
  • Who to ask for help: Meet your local lifeguards and learn how to get help.
  • Dry-sand beach demonstration: See how rips work using coloured dyes, learn beach warning signs and ocean patterns.

Location: Campus East (UOW Student Residence)

*Students joining from the UOW Liverpool campus will have an additional opportunity built into their experience that extends the timing of their day (9.30am-6.00pm including travel time). Refer to your session details for more information.

  • A light BBQ lunch is provided for attendees.
  • This event will include a short walk and a dry-sand beach demonstration. Students will not be entering the water as part of this event.
